Gravity, the Materpiece of the Year?

Since the first release on Oct 4, 2013, Gravity has received a remarkably high box office and won overwhelmingly positive praise from all critics and audience. By all appearances, I will be no surprise that Gravity ignited enthusiasm of science-fiction junkies again and caused a wave over the world. After watching this movie most people stated that it is spectacular film lives up to the hype. Its stunning vista of the universe and the Earth displayed with 3D technology refreshes our viewing experience.

However, compared with special effects and dazzling visuals used in Gravity, its storyline seems to be a little pale. In a short summary, Gravity tells a story of how a astronaut Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) and a scientist Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) take steps to save themselves and go back to the beautiful blue planet - the Earth after an accident occurred to their ship. With the storyline that can be concluded in one sentence, director Alfonso Cuarón focuses on scenes out of the Earth in a smart way to fill space of this film. Just like one critic said, “Alfonso Cuarón's film comes with a powerful force of its own - one which drags you towards the edge of your seat, forces your nails down into the cinema arm rests and sucks the breath out of you.” Two leading roles of Gravity, George Clooney and Sandra Bullock also make the fantastic performance. Bullock comfortably carries the entire film while Clooney provides a subtle but necessary performance alongside her.

I always thought the worst thing ever would be seeing you go, but the worst is seeing you unhappy.

Three spoof musketeers, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright, are back in 2013, bringing The World's End to the big screen which will definitely rekindle your restless heart. With the release of this inventive, humane comedy, they finally complete their classic funny series - Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End. From the impressive Shaun of the Dead in 2004, brutal and bloody Hot Fuzz in 2007 to the most anticipated The World's End, wrinkles have overspread their faces but the movie still proves their intelligence, creativity, passionate and forever-young heart. Just take the beer and enjoy this brainstorming movie with booming enthusiasm.

iOS 7 VS iOS 6, Which One Do You Love More?

The new OS - the iOS7 is given a redesign by Apple and is “the biggest change in iOS since the introduction of the iPhone," said Cook. Among all, the hallmark of iOS7 is a graphic design overhaul. So,  what's the major differences between iOS 7 and iOS 6 on UI .

Cleaner, Flatter Look

UI of iOS 7 has been totally torn apart and redesigned. The icons we all know and love are still there, but they have been redrawn in the flat way. The rounded, bubbly icon tiles in iOS 6 have been trimmed to make way for flatter, direct tiles. In addition, Apple has given preference to content over embellished looks and all unnecessary bars and buttons have been stripped off. Simplicity is what iOS 7 pursued.

Color and Border

Increased use of color and disappearance of border in iOS 7 is one effective way to achieve the concise design conception. It is clever to take advantage of different tags, icons and colors to zone information. Just like one reporter said, “Out the window goes creativity and in comes plain, black and white all over”.

3D Layers

As compared to a totally flat interface, iOS 7 is actually a bit layered. The build-in motion sensors are used to give it a cool effect. So, as you tilt your phone, the layers also move in 3D-like fashion, producing more depth behind the icons and the image. As a whole, the OS lets you focus on apps that you need and puts the things that you are not using in the background layer.

Understanding HD Video Format

HD (high-definition) video is the video of higher resolution. While there is no specific meaning for high-definition, generally any video image with more than 480 horizontal lines (North America) or 570 lines (Europe) is considered high-definition. In recent days, HD source formats are almost always either 1920 x 1080 resolution (1080p) or 1280 x 720 resolution (720p), which can give you the maximum high-definition experience with your 80-inch HDTV and high-resolution HTPC.

HD video

The quality of video is based on video codec. Video formats (such as AVI, MP4, WMV, etc) we often see are just containers, which couldn’t be the criteria to evaluate video quality. There are lossless video codecs, but they are still not going to yield any usable size. So it's general consensus that AVC/H.264 is the best video codec nowadays to make a higher video quality. Bitrate is also a very important factor. The higher the value of bitrate is, the better the video is. A HD MP4 video file with H.264 codec tends to have a bitrate (1080p at 60fps) of 6000 kbps – 8000 kbps. In addition, the quality of source video is essential for you to get a HD video as you cannot get a HD video even with high bitrate out of a source video of lower resolution.
